Istanbul – Indonesia’s unwavering support for Palestine has been praised by many countries, not least the Palestinian side. Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, conveyed his appreciation during a meeting at the recently concluded OIC Extraordinary Summit in Istanbul.
“President Abbas expressed his sincerest gratitude and appreciation for Indonesia’s relentless efforts in supporting Palestine,” said Indonesian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi.
President Abbas highlighted Indonesia as the only country outside the Middle East region that has unceasingly supported the rights of Palestine.
At the Summit, His Majesty King Abdullah II Bin Al-Hussein of Jordan, the custodian of the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem, also took the opportunity to express his appreciation of Indonesia’s continued support to Palestine.
The Istanbul summit was held following the unilateral claim made by the US President in regards to the status of Jerusalem. The meeting was expected to unite the members of the OIC to speak with one voice to oppose the claim.
President Joko Widodo once again reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to continuously support Palestine’s fight for independence. The support will vary in form, including political, economic, and foreign policy-related.
“In every breath of Indonesia’s diplomacy, there is always an element of support for Palestine,” said President Joko Widodo.
